Vogelsang High Sierra Camp
Vogelsang HSC is the highest of the camps, a breathtaking 10,300 feet above sea level. It is quite a climb no matter how you get there. Towering peaks loom over the camp, giving it a very alpine feel - the temperature also can give it a very alpine feel!
It's about 7-1/2 trail miles from the Tuolumne Meadows trailhead to Vogelsang. From here you descent one of two routes to get to Merced Lake HSC. There is a reasonable cross-country route to Sunrise HSC.
A scramble will take you up to Hanging Basket Lake, shown here. Other lakes nearby include Vogelsang Lake, Townsley Lake, Emeric and Boothe Lakes. Ireland Lake is an interesting cross-country jaunt. Several of these can provide good fishing. The camp will prepare your catch for breakfast at no additional cost.
